Exercising – the best way to stay healthy

Even if you’re losing weight on a diet, you should start an exercise regimen. Exercise is more important than you might imagine it to be. The benefits of regular physical exercise impact every aspect of your daily life. Exercise not only helps lose weight, but it also helps with ease of movement, builds strong muscles, improves your posture, makes your joints more stable, decreases chronic pain and leads to better sleep patterns and emotional well-being. Apart from these basic advantages, exercise reduces the risk for several diseases including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or hypertension, etc.

There have been several different recommendations on how often and for how long to exercise. The World Health Organization recommends one hour a day of moderate activity most days of the week to maintain good health and a healthy body weight. However, it’s important to listen to your own body when you are first beginning a workout regimen. Not only do you risk injury by doing too much, too soon, but you’re also far less likely to stick with it if you push yourself too far at the beginning. It is also important to choose activities close to those you already enjoy so you will be more likely to continue exercising. Having variety in your workout also helps break the monotony.

Beginning an exercise program is confusing, at best. Walking is an ideal exercise for many reasons, including its low risk of injury and you can do it almost anywhere! Walking is good medicine to reduce many risks and give a healthier life, including lowering high blood pressure and reducing the risks of stroke. So, get those walking shoes out and walk your way to good health!

However, you should work all of your muscle groups each week so that you avoid muscle imbalances, which could lead to injury. Hiring a personal trainer to set up your program would be a wise option.

Flexibility is very important, as having flexible muscles allows your joints to move through a full range of motion. A certain amount of flexibility is required to move smoothly, to avoid muscle tension and to keep the body protected from injury. Stretching is one way to keep the body flexible, especially the muscles that are tight as a result of bad posture. Stretching is typically the most overlooked part of an exercise routine, but it is a very important one and the best part of a workout.
