Even if you’re losing weight on a diet, you should start an exercise regimen. Exercise is more important than you might imagine it to be. The benefits of regular physical exercise impact every aspect of your daily life. Exercise not only helps lose weight, but it also helps with ease of movement, builds strong muscles, improves your posture, makes your joints more stable, decreases chronic pain and leads to better sleep patterns and emotional well-being. Apart from these basic advantages, exercise reduces the risk for several diseases including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or hypertension, etc.

There have been several different recommendations on how often and for how long to exercise. The World Health Organization recommends one hour a day of moderate activity most days of the week to maintain good health and a healthy body weight. However, it’s important to listen to your own body when you are first beginning a workout regimen. Not only do you risk injury by doing too much, too soon, but you’re also far less likely to stick with it if you push yourself too far at the beginning. It is also important to choose activities close to those you already enjoy so you will be more likely to continue exercising. Having variety in your workout also helps break the monotony.

Beginning an exercise program is confusing, at best. Walking is an ideal exercise for many reasons, including its low risk of injury and you can do it almost anywhere! Walking is good medicine to reduce many risks and give a healthier life, including lowering high blood pressure and reducing the risks of stroke. So, get those walking shoes out and walk your way to good health!

Strength training has a number of benefits, including helping you lose weight and, of course, keeping your body strong. However, you should work all of your muscle groups each week so that you avoid muscle imbalances, which could lead to injury. Hiring a personal trainer to set up your program would be a wise option.

Flexibility is very important, as having flexible muscles allows your joints to move through a full range of motion. A certain amount of flexibility is required to move smoothly, to avoid muscle tension and to keep the body protected from injury. Stretching is one way to keep the body flexible, especially the muscles that are tight as a result of bad posture. Stretching is typically the most overlooked part of an exercise routine, but it is a very important one and the best part of a workout.

Having seen the dangers of being obese, it is important not to panic and consider what lies ahead now, in terms of fighting obesity and the dangers that follow it. There are many choices to pick from, unless every condition is well beyond the danger levels; a diet routine accompanied with an exercise regimen will get you back on track. In this article, we shall be looking into various dietary ways to fight obesity. What if you have managed to leave the danger levels far behind? Rush to a doctor, you need more than just the afore mentioned!

First important step towards weight loss is – Calories — knowing how to find them, how to count them and how to cut them. Long story cut short, understanding caloric needs is an integral part of weight loss. Research over the years has proven that whether diets focus on fat or carbs; calories still count. Why? Regardless of what diet you’re following, if you take in more calories than you need … you gain weight. The specific, individual calorie needs depend on several factors such as the individual’s activity level and metabolism.

Healthy snacks are an important part of losing weight — they help you manage your hunger level to prevent overeating and allow you the opportunity to enjoy small portions of the foods you love. However, healthy snacks you don’t like will remain uneaten, so it’s important to find what works for you. That means finding lower-calorie alternatives to what you already enjoy.

The most important factor to be considered during dieting is nutrition. One effective way to reduce fat and calories is by ingredient substitution – without you having to forgo on your flavor or texture of the dish; like use vegetables, beans or whole grains to replace some of the meat content of burgers, meatloaf, and chili. Furthermore, we have all heard about the importance of drinking those eight glasses of water a day. As a matter of fact, drinking enough water actually helps your weight loss efforts. Needless to say, drinking enough water is at the top of the list of weight loss tactics of many people!

A word of caution, though – Fad diets are easy for just about anyone to fall for. When you first decide to lose weight, it can be tempting to do something drastic. The weight you lose when you start a fad diet is comprised mainly of body fluids, or water weight. The catch is that this weight usually comes back — with a few extra pounds added, too. Further, fad diets are low on the nutritional content, so you end up losing a lot more than just those extra pounds!

Surveys have shown that individuals who are obese have a 50 to 100% increased risk of premature death from all causes, compared to individuals with a healthy weight. The causes? Heart disease is increased in persons who are overweight or obese; High blood pressure is twice as common in adults who are obese than in those who are at a healthy weight; and the list goes on…

With such being the seriousness of the situation, dealing with obesity is of huge importance. It is time to get on your feet and keep a check on your BMI. Speaking of BMI, what is this BMI anyway? Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person’s weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems. It is the first step to know where you stand in the obesity scenario, and in assessing many other factors like possibility of other disorders, exercise regimen to follow, dietary plans, etc. In this article, let us delve further into what dangers obesity or chronic obesity poses:

Heart Disease and Stroke
High blood pressure and diabetes is twice as common in obese adults. Further, overweight people are more likely to suffer from high levels of triglycerides (blood fats) and LDL cholesterol (a fat-like substance often called the “bad cholesterol”), and low levels of HDL cholesterol (the “good cholesterol”). Where do all these come to play? At danger levels, they are responsible for causing strokes!

Cancer
Being overweight may increase the risk of developing several types of cancer, in both men and women alike.

Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a condition in which a person stops breathing for short periods during the night. A person who is overweight may have more fat stored around his or her neck. This may make the airway smaller. A smaller airway can make breathing difficult, loud (snoring), or stop altogether.

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a common joint disorder. Extra weight may place extra pressure on joints and cartilage, causing them to wear away.

Liver Disease
People who have diabetes or “pre-diabetes” (when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet in the diabetic range) are more likely to have fatty liver disease than people without these conditions.
